Community Involvement

This letter to the editor was posted on the Ventura County Star website on October 30, 2012:

Community involvement

Community involvement and volunteerism are truly important to me. People often complain about the state of their community, stand by, and do nothing about it.

Not Bob Roper! Bob has a track record of community involvement and volunteerism that is nothing short of impressive and inspiring. Bob has strong management experience while balancing large budgets. He is joining other proven leaders such as Mike Tracy and John Johnson in giving back to our community and at no salary, pension or health benefits!

We are truly fortunate to have such a proven leader and fine individual willing to serve our community. Please join me in Voting for Roper on Tuesday.

One BIG way to help the Campaign!

Friends and Supporters,

We’re in the final week of this campaign, and things are going great! We’ve had volunteers calling voters at the office, and Bob Roper has been racking up miles going door to door in the District meeting with voters.

As we sprint to the finish line, there is one thing you can do right now, from home, that will take 5 minutes and make a lasting difference.
We’ve crafted a letter to send to friends, family and neighbors in the district. You can copy and paste this letter into a new email and send it to your list. You can make any edits or personalize it as you see fit- We’re asking that you send this letter to ten of your friends and ask them to send it to ten of their friends. Our grassroots momentum will act as a force multiplier for the campaign. Sending this on to just ten people can be the final votes to get us across the line November 6th.

If you have any questions, feel free to give Chris a call at 805-766-4444 or reply to this email.

Thanks again for your support during this campaign – let’s finish strong!!

-Team Bob Roper

——————————————————-

Friends and family,

The November 6th election is less than three weeks away. Ballots are mailed and many people are voting now. I wanted to pass along my personal endorsement in a race that is critical for our community.

I am supporting Bob Roper for Supervisor (1st District) this November. Bob Roper’s campaign is the opportunity we have to change the Board of Supervisors and our future.

As a career public servant, Bob Roper knows how important it is to lead by example. He will not take any compensation or financial gain while serving as a Supervisor, including not taking a salary, pension, or medical benefits. We need more people like Bob who are willing to lead by example.

Bob began his working career as a private business owner and then began giving back to his community as a volunteer firefighter. Bob loved responding to emergencies and helping people. So, in 1980, he joined the Department full time. As he advanced through the ranks, Bob discovered a talent for leadership.

In 1997, Bob was named Ventura County Fire Chief. He was a resounding success in that demanding job. Over the years he introduced many innovations to improve service, protect the environment and balance the budget. By the time he retired, Bob had earned a reputation as one of the nation’s very best fire chiefs.

Bob’s campaign platform is based on:

  • Creating good jobs and growing our economy
  • Balancing the budget and living within our means
  • Keeping a strong focus on public safety
  • Preserving open space and agricultural land

Bob believes in telling you what he can do for you and being held accountable. If you want to read more about Bob Roper’s background and his plans for the future, you can do so on his website here: http://roperforsupervisor.com

You trusted Bob as your Ventura County Fire Chief to provide the community’s essential fire/rescue emergency services and his success confirms the trust you can count on as he is your next County Supervisor!

Please join me in supporting Bob Roper’s campaign. You can do this by simply sending this letter to ten of your friends and asking them to send it to ten of their friends. The grassroots strength is in numbers, and when we all take just a few minutes a day, we are force multipliers for Bob in getting the word out on our way to a win!

Thanks again for taking a few minutes to read this and support Bob’s efforts. I do hope you pass it along, and ask you to join me in voting for Bob Roper for Supervisor.

Final Days!

Can you take a few hours and walk with Bob Roper these final days of the campaign?

Bob is walking every day from now until Election Day in neighborhoods across the District.  Bob would like to take a few hours out of every day to walk with you!  If you want to walk with Bob, please email us with a time and a day that you would like to walk with Bob, and we will get back to you!  Our Campaign HQ is at 2355 Portola Rd in Ventura.

Also, since we’ll be out every day, if you can spare a few hours during the afternoon or evening to call voters, please call Chris at 805-766-4444 and we can schedule something.

With your help, we will be successful November 6th!!

It’s About Integrity

This letter to the editor was posted on the Ventura County Star website on October 29, 2012:

It’s about integrity

It’s been said, “It’s the economy, stupid” that motivated voters. This colorful advice resonates still but with official misconduct increasing at an alarming rate, voters are also saying, “It’s about integrity.”

Nothing is more important to the health of a democracy than ethical officials. The supervisor’s race brings this into sharp relief.

We can re-elect a “ground-hog-day” politician who, lacking vision, daily pursues a personal agenda that kills jobs and ignores rights or elect a leader who promotes job creation and fiscally responsible government where every citizen has a voice.

We can re-elect a politician who continues to feather his two pension nest or elect a leader who refused the supervisor‘s salary and pension.

We can re-elect a scofflaw who, when caught improperly using his county car for political purposes said he drove to a different meeting nearby for 10 minutes and then walked to the political event, a story that would be “laughed out of court” or elect our former fire chief, a person of unquestioned honesty and integrity.

We can re-elect another “flip-flopping” politician who wants to go to Washington (the flip) but lacking courage and follow through tries to slink back into his old office (the flop) or we can elect a person who created one of the finest fire departments in the country in tough economic times and left it in solid financial shape.

The choice is clear. Please join me in voting for Bob Roper.

Missing Signs

This letter to the editor was published in the Ventura County Star on October 28, 2012:

Missing Signs

Re: Rain Perry’s Oct. 21 letter, “Vandalized signs”:

The letters suggested that political signs for Steve Bennett were being stolen.

I can report that with respect to land I own, this is certainly not true.  Bennett or his supporters installed signs on land I own in Ventura and Saticoy without permission from me to do so.

If  Bennett’s signs are being removed, I suspect it is because they are being installed without permission from the property owner.

A New Voice

This letter to the editor was published in the Ventura County Star on October 28, 2012:

A New Voice

I am the executive director of Ventura County COLAB, the Coalition of Labor, Agriculture and Business, and I support Bob Roper for supervisor.

I am supporting Bob along with many in the agricultural community because agriculture is a business that is vital to our Ventura County economy and way of life.

The problems agri-businesses face relate to unnecessary and sometimes insurmountable red-tape involved with permitting. This makes local farmers less competitive and less able to expand.

Bob is dedicated to making our county more business friendly. He has a history of working with the agricultural community on wildland fire protection and environmental stewardship.

What Ventura County needs is a supervisor who supports agriculture, advocating for fair rules and not taking the industry for granted as a viewshed.

Bob’s opponent believes that agricultural landowners are only interested in “urban sprawl.”

I work with out agricultural leaders on a daily basis and can say with confidence this is not true.

We are looking to preserve our biggest industry and keep farmers farming, and for that I, along with many agricultural leaders, am supporting Bob Roper for a new voice on the Board of Supervisors.

Fiscal Responsibility

The following letter to the editor was posted on the Ventura County Star website on October 22, 2012:

Fiscal responsibility

As a sitting Ventura City Council member, I realize the importance of cooperation between the city and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors. Having a supervisor who understands this, and has proven experience in doing so, is essential.

Bob Roper has both the necessary experience and the leadership to represent us on the Board of Supervisors. Starting as a volunteer fireman, Bob worked 35 years for the Ventura County Fire Department, serving the last 15 years as fire chief.

Bob effectively managed more than 600 employees and maintained a balanced budget, while increasing reserves! His history of fiscal responsibility is indicative of what he will bring to the Board of Supervisors.

When elected, Bob will take his commitment to Ventura County’s District 1 to a new level by refusing to accept the salary that comes with the position!

In addition Bob will focus on increasing new business in Ventura County, which will translate to new jobs we badly need. He also will work diligently to retain and assist current business.

Please join me by voting for Bob Roper on Nov. 6 so Ventura County will again become viable for new business!

New Vision

The following letter to the editor was posted on the Ventura County Star website on October 22, 2012:

New vision

I’m supporting Bob Roper for County Supervisor because I believe in his vision for the future of Ventura County. His voice is direly needed on the Board of Supervisors.

I served on the Ventura City Council with Steve Bennett, and I am clearly aware that his interests are not in line with the residents of the district he represents. Mr. Bennett is more interested in protecting open space, at any cost, rather than working with his constituents to proactively find solutions.

We need to focus on economic revitalization in support of our small businesses, so they have the opportunity to bring jobs to the county, not drive them away. Bob Roper is committed to streamlining the permit process and making it user friendly. He will dedicate his salary to establishing an ombudsman position to focus on business outreach. This is a great example of his dedication to serve his constituency. His selflessness is admirable and should prove to all of us who really has our best interests at heart.

I urge you to vote for Bob Roper so we have the new vision for Ventura County. Leadership starts from the top. Bob will set an example everyone could learn from.
